The Maison du Riz is not a museum but an educational center telling about the evolution of rice farming from its beginning in the Camargue to the present day.
Three areas have been created
One is dedicated to material specific to rice farming. A second is dedicated to the grain and its various stages of processing and a third contains a shop where the visitor can buy regional products. The Rozière family, passionate rice farmers will be happy to welcome you.
The Maison du Riz is located in the heart of the Camargue. It offers entertaining and educational visits to a rice farm in Albaron, only 15 minutes from Arles and Saintes Maries de la Mer far away.
*The museum is at present closed
Ideally located at the heart of the Camargue, in the middle of the paddy fields, the Rice Museum is a place imbued with history.
At the Rice Museum, you will be welcomed by Robert Bon who will talk to you about the history of rice growing. You will discover unique machines that will amaze both young and old, models explaining how rice is grown, the rice grower's trade and the Camargue's fauna and flora. The visit will end with a tasting of organic and natural products. Before leaving, take a few moments to visit the museum shop, which sells souvenirs, books and local products.
Every year, the 'Fêtes des Prémices du Riz' take place in mid-September. Whole districts, villages, associations and families celebrate the rice harvest with in procession of floats carrying the rice ambassadress.
