The white horse is the symbol of the Camargue. On horseback you can discover the real Camargue.
Horses are the companions of herdsmen but are also their work tools, among the bulls on the marshlands.
They are perfectly adapted to the terrain and the climate. They don't like to live in stables, preferring to be in and among the marsh reeds.
These farming horses are pleasant to ride on strolls along the sea shore and around the Etang du Vaccarès.
On 1 May, they are the guests of honour at the large annual gathering of the Arles herdsmen in costume.
The Camargue horse race has been officially recognised since 1978.
